About Boston Israeli Folk Dance festval [Mar. 9th, 2006|10:26 am]
Israeli Folk Dancing!

Last Sunday, March 5th was 30th Boston Israeli Folk Dance festval. As part of group "Firelech", I was a participant. I had more positive impression from the performances then last year. There were a couple of groups from NY, one from Medison, Wisconsin and on from LA. LA was good, but I did not have to watch their whole number. My favorite group was (not surprising) "Zikukim" - most professional, very interesting music choice. Brandeis' "Beyachad" was also very good, but I foudn their choreography to be closer to simple modern ballet, not much jewishness or israeliness. "Parparim" also left a very good impression. However many other groups I found a little disappointing - dancers were missign something, not sure what. Some looked like their soul was not into dancing. And some maybe need a bit more practice.
But over all, the festival was very much a success. Kresge theater at MIT (~1200 seats) was packed. There was a Israeli fair at the entrance. I am sure everybody who came to watch were glad they did.

Hello, everybody. I am part of Jewish Musical Theater Firelech.

We are based in Boston, Massachusetts.

If anybody is interested in joining us as dancer or singer, feel free to contact me :-)

We are doing Jewish dances from all over the world, not just Israeli.

If this is not exactly appropriate place - I appologize.

Hi everyone

sorry I'm not doing my part to keep this community running... I hope it will become more active in the future. anyway today the Washington Post ran a short article about Israeli dancing in the area! you can see the first bit here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/print/sundaysource/index.html but click on it and to register to see the rest, including a pic from the Rockville dance session I go to! yay!

I don't know if you're aware of it, but in the summer months (until September), the ticket price of the Tel Aviv University folk dances also includes entrance to the pool (after midnight). All you foreigners are permitted to be jealous. ;)

Btw: I would love to date a girl who loves folk dances (especially if she likes having her hair played with). Anyone interested?

Well, I know this layout is pretty boring so far. But that's not the point, the point is that we all love rikud! Right?

So... let's introduce ourselves. Where are you all from? Where did you learn Israeli dancing? Is there a session that you go to where you live?

I'm Danna, I grew up with the Israeli dancing at Habonim Dror Camp Moshava in Maryland, and later I started dancing at the amazing session in Rockville with Moshe Shem-Tov, at Tikvat Israel congregation on Thursdays. If anyone lives in the DC area and has never been there, you should definitely check it out, it's my favorite out of all the sessions I've been to! I started a short-lived but really fun rikud club in my public high school when I was a senior, and in recent years I've danced in the Habonim Dror dance troupe twice in the Israeli Dance festival in NYC.
